I feel that Fred Thompson soon will be leaving the presidential race. No, I don't have any inside track - but the signs are clear - not because of the vote in SC yesterday - but something else he said yesterday and something he has done today.
He said Momma is in the hospital and I'm heading to Tennessee that added to the fact that his web site Fred08 is not actively asking for donations to fill the RED pick up’s tank as it was yesterday. More like playing the greatest hits from the short and bitter sweet run.
As a Fred Head; I was excited to see the tall man from Tennessee even ponder throwing his cowboy hat in the ring. He being by all accounts from both sides of the aisle a straight forward person who would not to pander to either sides' lunatic fringe. Nor kiss the ass of the press (and I use term “press” very loosely). Someone, who would speak the truth even if it wasn't a pleasant sound. He wouldn't promise everyone everything to get make us like him. Thompson offered instead the cold hard truth and plain not flashy options.
His presidential run was all hinging on most of us Americans having a willingness to accept reality, as well as having an attention span longer than a nanosecond - that would be his down fall. We refuse to do the first, because we are unable to do the other. We don't want qualified options to fix the big problems because we are unwilling to accept that there are real problems. And that is on both sides of the political fence just ask Joe Biden and Bill Richardson. We want instant gratification and to be entertained (Huckabee, Gravel and Paul) and we want to bitch about it.
The press didn't want this guy – Thompson, would get things done. There are no ratings in things running smoothly - So they tagged him as lazy berated his wife and when that didn’t work – they just ignored him. Gaving more press time to Britney Spears’ bi-polar panty-less roller coaster ride than the issues facing all Americans rich or poor / young or old. A lass, I fear it is the American people who have allowed this lazy turn. We are more interested in Britney’s panty less crotch, than the abilities of the presidential candidates who may actually run the country in 11 months.
The press long since turned lazy; blogger now doing the investigations and breaking big stories like Walter Reed, You Tubers, asking the questions at presidential debates. Hell even then it took Thompson to say, wait a minute, I’m not trivializing global warming to just a raised hand answer, and thus forcing other candidate to have a spine from that point on.
If Thompson does leave the race, it means all the adults will have gone home to tend to reality. Leaving us with the saddest field of candidates (including Bloomberg), that we have ever had to settle for.
But for now - Thanks Fred, for allowing me and many like me, to remove the brown paper bags we have worn over our moderate Republican heads for the past 8 years. Seeing the sunshine again if only briefly.
Thanks Fred for trying - Hoping your momma gets better soon.

Christain Mullah?
"I have opponents in this race who do not want to change the Constitution, "But I believe it's a lot easier to change the Constitution than it would be to change the word of the living god. And that's what we need to do -- to amend the Constitution so it's in God's standards rather than try to change God's standards so it lines up with some contemporary view."
I worry when I hear anyone in any context prattle on about changing the constitution. Changing it to force one’s own religious believes upon the rest of us. The words quoted above is from a quote of wannabe president Mike Huckabee.
I could go on about this statement until my carpal tunnel turns my fingers numb. But I will simply say that it saddens me. This is a statement I would expect from a third world Mullah, but a Pastor? But then again Huckabee turned away from the pulpit calling from god to grander ego feeding political aspirations.
We never used to be so frightened, that we would give a person like Huckabee, who would destroy all we hold dear because we don’t pray like he does the time of day and a single vote.
